Norwegian Constitution Day - 17th of May

What better way to start the day than having 6 girls make you breakfast, in your own apartment. Norwegian Brunost(browncheese), scrambled eggs, fresh baked bread, two boxes of wine and Mills ekte majones(the way that mayonnaise is meant to taste). A very good start to boost our nationalistic spirit!

Dressed in our finest we arrived at Kidney Lawn, decorated especially for the day in Red, White and Blue! The rumour about this being the largest 17th of May celebration on the southern hemisphere didn't disappoint. Approximately 1000 people showed up to join the parade through Brisbane inner city. The 5 man strong accordian band guided the troops through one nationalistic song after the other. And the "royal family" waved to the parade when it returned to the assembly area. Waffles and norwegian style hotdogs made it a good day, and with the beer and the sun it turned out perfect!

The annual 17th of May studchoir! We are still very disappointed that it wasn't shown on television back in Norway! We sang "Mellom bakkar og berg", "Ola Tveiten" and the grand finale "Idyll", the best performance of that song outside the borders of Norway.

Of course there where games as well, sackjumping, potatorun and wifecarrying!

Sydney: Third time at the opera house, what a great house!

A couple of weeks ago I went to Sydney during the one week break. I went down there to meet my girlfriend, Anett, which I met just a couple of weeks before that ...She was studying english in Brisbane for about 2 months.
Together with some friends of her, we had 5 great days in the capital of Aussieland!
Anett is now travelling 14 days through Malaysia and Thailand and then flying back to Norway.
The days in Sydney we basically spent one sightseeing the most common sights, shopping and partying. One of the nights we joined some friends of mine, who are studying there, for a party.

here are some of the pics I took.

Part of Sydney. Shooted from the RiverCat.

Me and Anett eating lunch in Darling Harbour!
This area is definitive worth a vist.

Anett showing off in front of the Opera House....
Her friends from the left are Maja and Tine (Liv Arnett, haha for et navn!)

Me, posing in Hyde Park. We went here for a picnic, but got a free
photo gallery display as well! great!

One of the pics displayed in Hyde Park!
At each picture we could read the story behind it. I think
this horse is a legend among Melbourne Cup-fans.

never too late

Hi!

I haven't given you any updates this semester...I'm too lazy!
well...I guess it's a result of a very messy start of the semester. We hadn't got a place the first period and after the 3 month vacation it was quite hard to start the normal life again.
Now, we're starting week 9 and we've just started reading. We have 4 mid-term tests, 3 of them already done and last one tomorrow. Then we have some assignments and after that we're soon beginning the exam period, which is 10-27 June. We both have tickets back to Norway 2th of July, but will probably change it with an earlier date when we get the exam dates.

We had a housewarming in start of March. Here are some pictures:

Some of our new friends!
From the left Cecilie, Ingjerd og Joachim.
Jokke is also a student from NTNU just like me and Erik.

Erling.
He didn't have any apartment the first month...so he was sleeping on our couch!
Normally he's sleeping with some kind of sheet...

Another student from NTNU, Benny (Barjinder)!
Great guy!

You people from Trondheim should recognise this guy.
It's his favourite time of day, feeding time!
Even spent a week in Brissy with me and Erik!
Thanks for the visit, mate!

Another guy friends from Trondheim might will recognise..Torbjørn!
I shared apartment with him the first semester in Trondheim!
Johan and I accidentally ran into him at Melbourne Airport in January...Without him knowing I was here or me knowing he was planning to study one semester in Bris!

Yesterday me and Peter decided to take a trip to the brisbane powerhouse to drink a beer or two not knowing what the evening program was..

We felt like havin' a beer
ended up in our deepest fear
went down to the bar
saw tonight's star
and realized the party was queer!

At least we got free icecream :)

Our new flat in New Farm, Brisbane

Time to show you people back home our new luxurious life in Brizzy. Claus and I was saved by a friend of a friend(a Danish guy called Peter) after 3 weeks of numerous inspections, phone calls and hours of searching the internet in a desperate quest for a new home. Then Peter calls as if he was sent from above and told us about his new flat with two spare rooms. So now I've posted a couple of pictures from the new flat so you people back home can see how nice it is, and for you guys who knew us from 25 Connor st last term, well you know why we like this place better :)

kodak moments

Jumping Australia

Rykende fersk (smoking(sizzling) fresh)

That big

A phone 17km into nowhere, the sign said call if you were feeling tired and someone will come and carry your backpack. Wonder if someone has broken down at this point when they realized that it's just a joke...

Always nice to be reminded

Wonder what he used as identification when he bought this ticket (view in large version and read the ticket)

FREEEEEEDOM

Read the top line, it was located in the folder in the seat in front of us

NZ part 2

The previous post stated that we were going to Abel Tasman for some sea kayaking. We did go to Abel Tasman, but instead of renting kayaks we hired a 25 Ft long sailboat named Waianawa. It was actually cheaper to rent 1 sailboat for three days than 4 kayaks for the same period of time. And much more relaxing :) After the three days of sailing we rafted on the north island, had a pitstop in Auckland and the group split up. Johan and Max went to Thailand, Martin to Sweden with a short stop in the states and I went back to Brisbane for one more semester... Here are pictures from the last days in NZ..
